How to solve this problem: The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “” can’t be read or written.

Every time I try to copy a folder to my seagate external hard drives I get this message.

The drives are less than a year old, the drives and folders are not locked, I'm using OS Ventura and I've switched to zsh bash.

I've had the drives since December 2022. They're Mac formatted. Up until 2 weeks ago I was able to always copy folders to the drives; capture one folders and desktop created folders, etc. Now I can't copy any folders to either drive.

Drives can fail at anytime, sometime new out of the box...

Are you saying I need to upgrade the software for the drives to W/R because of the new OS Ventura?

?

I am saying if the external drive format was NTFS to have r/w access on the macOS you need third party software...

typically for Mac only what you want is GUID/APFS the macOS can r/w natively—then no third party software is required.

copy or write in general .... you do not make this clear(?)

How is the external drive formatted? If NTFS to have r/w access on the macOS you need to update your supporting third party software.

My drives are both Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with permissions to read/write.

I tried the drives on another computer and they both worked fine. When I go into the system HD to change permissions by clicking on the +/- icon, I get this message: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have the necessary permission.

Under sharing and permissions it says: You can only read

NAME Privilege

system Read & Write

wheel Read Only

everyone Read Only

When I click on Action icon: apply to enclosed items, I get this message: Are you sure you want to apply the selected owner, group, and permissions to all the enclosed items?
