Safari won't open magnet links.

When typing or pasting a magnet link URL into the address bar safari does a web search instead of accepting the URL and sending it to the appropriate torrent application.

I am sure there is just some simple thing I have messed up with being new to macOS.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.2

Safari won't know what to do with a magnet link. However, there are Safari Extensions you can install that can handle a magnet: URL and direct it to an appropriate bittorrent client app.

Search for one in the Mac App Store. A developer that goes by the unfortunately named "Girlfriend Technology LLC" has a Safari Extension that claims the ability to do that.

Disclaimer: I don't use it.
