Permanently arrange displays

Last week I replaced my 2015 Macbook Pro i7 with an M2 Macbook Pro 14". I use two external displays with my Macbook. On my old i7, I never had a problem with monitor arrangement after the Macbook was asleep. On the M2 Macbook, the monitors get rearranged after the Macbook goes to sleep for an extended period or if it is restarted. They always revert to the same configuration, which is the opposite of how they are setup.

Is there a way to lock the arrangement of the monitors?

Hi williasl10,

You may find it helpful to assign your displays to Spaces in Mission Control. To enable this in macOS Ventura, go to System Settings - Desktop & Dock to find the option for "Displays have separate Spaces".

Once enabled, Work in multiple spaces on Mac outlines some of the functions possible with working in multiple Spaces.

Information on arrangement of displays is described in Connect a display to your Mac:

"From the Apple menu  in the corner of the screen, choose System Settings (or System Preferences), then click Displays. In display settings you can change display resolution, choose a refresh rate, arrange your displays, and more."

Regards.

Williasl10,

At this time there is not a feature that supports what you're suggesting. However, what you're experiencing is unexpected behavior. There, we'd like to provide you with a few steps that may be able to help resolve this issue:

1. Be sure your Mac is running the latest compatible software version. This can often resolve issues that are related to the software( It's a good idea to back up your Mac): Update macOS on Mac

2. Ensure that your external displays have the latest firmware versions installed.

If the issue persists, we suggest that you reach out to Apple directly concerning this issue. They will be able to assist you further. You can follow this link to connect with them: Get Support

Best wishes.

Hello,

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately this does not solve my problem. I am using spaces now.

Any time my Macbook goes to sleep or if I restart it, the spaces get rearranged - Desktop 1 is now on the right of my macbook when it should be on the left, and Desktop 2 is now on the left when it should be on the right.

Is there a way to force the macbook to remember the device/desktop location in physical space?

Thanks,

Steve
