Convert Image Error "There was a problem running the action."

Hello.

The Quick Actions then Convert Image from the Finder's context menu used to be working smoothly, now it's not.

Please see attached image.

Would appreciate it so much if you can share with the community the fix you have applied if you have encountered this issue.

Thank you.

Hey róinín,

We'd recommend reviewing this article as it provides information on using the convert image feature: Convert image file types using Preview on Mac - Apple Support

If that's not working as expected, we'd recommend testing to see if the same issue occurs in safe mode to isolate the problem further. This article explains how: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"How to use safe mode

Determine whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps:

Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."

You may also want to provide some additional details about the situation.

Does this happen with all images you try to convert, or just one specific image or filetype?

Thanks!

Thank you so much for your help, WinsC1!

The feature is very important to me and the tools I have created.

Hence I need it to work as expected or as it used to be when it was launched in the Apple Developers' Conference many months ago.

Yes, it's a problem in all images.

I will implement your instructions to isolate the problem and update you.

Many thanks.

Róinín
