How could iPod hard drives be so durable?

Just came back to using my iPods to keep myself offline. Got tired of the incessant messaging and trivial content on smartphones. I used to go jogging outside with iPod classics - those with mechanical hard drives. Now I think about it, that's an awful lot of daily vibration for a mechanical hard drive. I had a 13-inch Macbook Pro whose 2.5-inch mechanical hard drive had to be replaced three times as I would sometimes take off running with it in a backpack as soon as I closed the lid. Still, I use the laptop mainly on a desk, whereas I use my iPods mainly when I'm moving about or running. I've never had an iPod hard drive fail on me and they are all mechanical hard drives - iPod Classics - I don't know which generations they are, but definitely mechanical HDs. Were iPod HDs specially designed/engineered or am I just lucky?
