Tried to purchase an item from JC Penney and Etsy recently both refused my Apple Pay. Why?

Tried purchasing an item at KC Penney and Etsy but both purchases refused my Apple Pay!

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 16

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. If your transactions is being declined, these steps can help: If a payment card that you use with Apple Pay is declined - Apple Support


1. Open Apple Wallet:
* On your iPhone, open the Wallet app.
* On your iPad, open the Settings app > Wallet & Apple Pay.
* On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings (or System Preferences), then click Wallet & Apple Pay.
5. Select your payment card.
6. If you see the message "This card cannot be used," check if your bank or card issuer currently supports Apple Pay:
* Apple Pay participating banks in Canada, Latin America, and the United States
* Apple Pay participating banks in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East
* Apple Pay participating banks and card issuers in Asia-Pacific
10. If you have more questions, contact your bank or card issuer.
