2017 iPad Pro: PPHK2LL/A 10.5-inch-display
Speakers don't work.
Only option available is headphones.
Speakers no longer play; output is set to headphones (but I rarely if ever use headphones with it). Only thing that ever goes in the lightning port is the charging cable. Just started a few weeks ago. Cycled iPad on and off to no avail.

Your iPad Pro 10.5” has a 3.5mm Headphone jack. Within the jack is an internal switch that switches the iPad audio between the internal speakers and, when connected, your headphones.
This internal switch can sometimes get stuck; simply repeatedly inserting and removing a 3.5mm headphone plug can often clear the problem.

Consider a visit to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:
Great idea! I think this happened to me several years ago and your idea saved the day; I had forgotten about this.
But alas, I plugged in and out the 3.5 mm connector to no avail. 10-20x.
It may be time for a new iPad...
