What does it mean If an iPad character appears on the map in a particular position but

can't be found there?

Thanks for the helpful comments. The outcome was interesting. Continuing my search at sunset the low light incidence revealed my iPad in my quad bike. It had fallen down behind a radiator grill out of sight (even when I had searched there with a torch). So everywhere my bike went so did the iPad avatar. Up and down the hill to work. I nearly lost my reason and the relief one week later when I just happened upon the iPad was profound. It had 10% charge left, just enough to keep feebly signalling.

I am now working on my back ups.

If you can see your iPad on the map in the Find app, and you have subsequently been to the location physically and ascertained that it is not there, it is because it is your iPad's last known location that you have seen on the map.

It also means that your iPad has not been online since. I hope you find your iPad again.
