Screen time report on Mac says Instagram always active

I've been having this issue for months, and I can't seem to find any fix for it.

Some apps (usually it's Instagram and Facebook) show up in my MacBook Pro Screen Time Report as always active (eg today it's almost 14 hours, as it's almost 2pm). I've only been using my computer today for about an hour or so (otherwise it's asleep on my desk, with the lid closed). This is just for my computer, and does not appear to affect my iPhone Screen Time report.

I have lots of tabs open, but none of them is Instagram.

Today it seems to also be the "Help Viewer" which I opened yesterday (but also closed yesterday).

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I did fix it a while ago by shutting down my Mac (which I don't usually do), but as soon as I opened IG again, it starts tracking it as being used 24 hours a day.

Hello sydney_nsw,

For help with Screen Time and app usage check your background settings using the help of the guide page here: Change Login Items settings on Mac

You can also test disabling opening items automatically with the steps below, found here: Open items automatically when you log in on Mac

"Add or remove automatic items

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General  in the sidebar, then click Login Items on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Do any of the following:
    • Add a login item: Click the Add button  below the list of items, select a document, folder, app, server, or other item, then click Add.
    • Remove a login item: Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click the Remove button  below the list.
    • Allow apps to run in the background: Allow apps to perform tasks when the app isn’t open, such as checking for software updates or syncing data."

Let us know if adjusting any of these settings helps to resolve the issue.

Best.
