Mac unable to communicate with Apple Watch

I get the message 'your Mac is unable to communicate with your Apple Watch' and can no longer unlock my Mac with my watch

Mac unable to communicate with your Apple Watch This seems to be a constant problem. I have been stuck with this many times, but since upgrading to apple watch 9.2 (I have an apple watch 5) nothing seems to fix it. I have tried all the suggestions that I've found on line. Trashing the key chain entries etc. I have disconnected the ethernet, and restarted, re-paired etc. etc. etc. I get the same message every time when I try to turn on "Use your apple watch to unlock your mac". I'm desperate. Is apple ever going to fix this?

Apple Watch won't unlock Mac after iOS 18/macOS Sequoia upgrade MacBook Air M1 2020, macOS 15 (Sequoia) Apple Watch 7, watchOS 11 iPhone 13 mini, iOS 18 Today I upgraded to the latest software and my Apple Watch stopped unlocking my MacBook Air. When I check the settings on my Mac, it was disabled. When I tried reenabling, I get the error: Your Mac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch. Make sure your Apple Watch is unlocked, on your wrist, and powered on. The watch is unlocked, on my wrist and powered on. This has been working just fine until I upgraded today.

I tried various solutions suggested on other threads regarding this problem. What worked for me was to unpair my watch from my phone, and then re pair it. Problem solved!
