trackpad 2012 MacBook Pro
My trackpad doesn't work - Is there something in settings to change and how do I get into settings without a trackpad?
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.14

This option may help: (It was copied from another help site)
Press down and hold these 4 buttons together for about 8 or more seconds: "Option", "Power", "Shift" and "Control." Your SMC will be reset and your trackpad fixed.
Also, have you tried to schedule a Genius Bar appointment?

Thanks SixFour391 for your suggestion. My trackpad has always moved the pointer arrow, but it will not complete the click to activate what the pointer arrow is over.
I held the four buttons after my computer had booted up and the screen went black and never came on again after waiting several minutes. It will reboot with the power button but not by holding the four keys 'Option,' 'Power,' 'Shift,' and Control keys even when holding them for 10 go 20 seconds.
I appreciate your response SixFour391.
It's not fixed. I've charged the battery, turned it off and shelved it. Fortunately it's not my only computer. I had hoped to continue using it as my HP printer computer because of it's USB-A connectivity.
Thanks for your interest and helpfulness.
Dang it. Sorry it didn’t work.
Have you, since, fixed it? Or are you still waiting on a solution?
I reread my first suggestion, then your response…
It’s possible that you may have needed to push those buttons prior to powering up the computer; I think you needed to do that while computer was off…
