Music App on MacBook Does Not Pause When Taking Off AirPods Max

On the iPhone, when I am listening to music via the Music app with my AirPods Max, if I remove them the Music automatically pauses.

However, when listening to music on my MacBook via the Music app, if I remove the AirPods Max, the music continues playing on the speakers (or I assume whatever the default sound output is). The music does not pause.

Is this normal behavior for a Mac as opposed to the phone? Or is there some setting I am missing to make the music pause?

Thanks.

Hey there jmFightSpam,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.

Just to confirm, have you ensured that Automatic Head Detection has been enabled on your MacBook? Automatic Head Detection would be the setting that allows audio to automatically stop playing when you take your AirPods Max off.

Check out this link for help with locating the setting on your Mac: Change audio settings for AirPods Max - Apple Support

Turn off Automatic Head Detection
Your AirPods Max automatically stop playing audio when you take them off, and resume playback when you put them back on. You can change this setting.
1. Wear your AirPods, and make sure they’re connected to your device.
2. Do one of the following:
* On Mac: Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click the name of your AirPods in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down), then turn “Automatic head detection” on or off.

Let us know if that's able to help.

Have a great day!
