When using Chrome on my new Macbook, I can't use the pinch gesture on the trackpad to copy or cut or delete characters from the URL

With my new Macbook, I now cannot use the pinch gesture on the trackpad to highlight, copy, cut, or delete characters from the Chrome address bar. I used to be able to do this on my old Mac.

I've tried changing the settings for the trackpad -- another user said, "What's wrong with your trackpad?" and agreed that something was off. The weird thing is that I can use the gesture with Safari, but it's not my preferred browser.

And I called Apple and worked with an agent and it seemed to work for a while but without touching Settings, it's stopped again.

I read that there was an ongoing bug with the pinch gesture when using it to zoom -- is that related? I am so used to holding my thumb down and moving my index finger to the left to clear the bar or highlight.
