My iPhone 14Pro is totally locked (not sure how this happened). I cannot open banners that are on the home screen, etc.. I cannot even complete a hard shut down. There is a lock symbol in the bar at the top of the phone.

If the display isn't responsive when you touch it, force restart your iPhone. Press and quickly release the volume up button, then press and quickly release the volume down button. Then hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

The operative word here is QUICKLY; and try it a couple of times, the timing is a little tricky.
This will ALWAYS work if done correctly, unless your phone has a hardware problem that needs to be checked out by Apple.
Thank you. I have tried your last two possible solutions. Swiping up—I can’t. Already tried the volume buttons/side button—now I am getting Siri, last night i got notice that Emergency contact could be enacted. When I did get the button for sliding to turn off but no go. Sounds like support contact is the route I need to take.
