Road block trying to set up iCloud mail account

I have never set up an iCloud mail account on my iMac but have decided to do so now. I was under the impression that I would have to use my appleid for my iCloud email address, but when I type in my appleid name I get a message that says that name is already in use and gives me other suggestions.

Do I need to choose a new name or not?

Cannot change my Apple ID Email Address I set up my Apple ID for the first time with an Outlook Email Address but after setting up iCloud Mail on my Mac, I want to change my Apple ID Email Address to the iCloud Email address but whenever I try to complete this step, it gives me an error that this email address cannot be used as Apple ID as depicted in the Screenshot below. How to change my iCloud email address? I'm new to apple. I created an iCloud email address when I set up my MacBook. Unfortunately I created a dumb email address that I want to change, but I cannot find any info on how to do this. I doesn't seem to be an option. I don't want an alias, but a primary email address. You only need one Apple ID for all your devices. Just sign in with the one you already have.
