iPhone 12 vs CarPlay hot phone

New 2023 Silverado (day 3) and a less than 6 month old iPhone 12. On the charger or off makes no difference. The phone gets very hot to the touch and the battery depletes rapidly. Mind you, this is just while connected for use for calls only. No navigation or steaming music.

My trucks navigation and other apps are self contained and the system has its own cellular data link so it is not using the phones data.

I’ve seen multiple posts about this issue with nothing but condescending comments from the Apple keyboard warriors.

IS APPLE WORKING ON A FIX OR DO I NEED TO SWITCH MY PHONE BRAND??

I’ve seen this answer in multiple threads and appreciate the feedback but I’ve also seen multiple people saying the same thing. Not one of them said “that’s what fixed it”….

I’ve used the same phone in other vehicles with the exact same results. Only while connected to apple CarPlay whether it’s in use in some way or not the phone gets hot and the battery life tanks.

There must be some correlation between the iPhone 12 and Apple CarPlay.

Hello Br459lambego,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. There are certain scenarios where your device might feel warm. This resource does explain when this might happen and what you can do: If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support

Your device might get warm

You might notice that your device feels warmer when you:
* Set up your device the first time
* Restore from a backup
* Wirelessly charge your device
* Use graphics-intensive or processor-intensive apps, games, or features, including augmented-reality apps
* Stream high-quality video
These conditions are normal, and your device will return to a regular temperature when the process is complete or when you finish your activity. If your device doesn't display a temperature warning, you can keep using your device.

If your device gets too warm
iOS and iPadOS devices have built-in protections to prevent overheating. If the interior temperature of your device exceeds the normal operating range, your device will protect its internal components by attempting to regulate its temperature.
Avoid these conditions and activities because they might change the performance of your device:
* Leaving your device in a car on a hot day.
* Leaving your device in direct sunlight for an extended period of time.
* Using certain features in hot conditions or direct sunlight for an extended period of time, such as GPS tracking or navigation in a car, playing a graphics-intensive game, or using augmented-reality apps.
If the interior temperature of your device exceeds the normal operating range, you might notice these changes:
* Charging, including wireless charging, slows or stops.
* The display dims or goes black.
* Cellular radios enter a low-power state. The signal might weaken during this time.
* The camera flash is temporarily disabled.
* Performance slows with graphics-intensive or augmented-reality apps or features.

If your device is prompting you with a temperature warning or if you're unable to touch your iPhone due to it being too hot, then we recommend that you contact Apple Support for help. They might have to investigate this issue further with you. Just in case, you can use this link to reach them:  Contact - Official Apple Support
