Possible MLS Subscription on older iPads?

I have learned that my iPad Air 2 will not update the software beyond 15.7.3, and I need 16 for the MLS Season Pass. Does anyone know if there is any discussion to let older iPads stream my MLS Pass, or is this device basically a brick for watching the MLS?

Does anyone have a work around they have discovered? It is really annoying to have to buy a new iPad for using an app that can already stream sports...just not the subscription I paid for.
