My iPhone overheated and now won't turn on

I went waterskiing with my phone. I placed it in a waterproof case. But when I checked my phone after the first activity, it was filled with salt water. The phone was still operational, but I removed it from the case to allow it to dry. It turned off and began to overheat while drying. I let it cool down for a few minutes before turning it on. It won't turn on, and I'm afraid it's water damaged. I've had my phone in the water before, but it never behaved like this. I'm not sure if it's because the water is salted that it's done this. I took out the sim tray to let it dry and put it in rice for about 12h now. Does anyone know what I should do further? Or should I bring it to an apple store?

Apple or an authorized service provider will not in any way offer or attempt to ‘repair’ a liquid damaged device.
The only option they would offer would be a replacement.

Be warned that if you agree to the repair attempt, your phone will become untouchable by Apple and will have zero trade in value.

That ship sailed, seeing the saline swim.

You’ll need to discuss this with whoever said they could fix it.

Given it’s salt water, I’d be skeptical about the longevity of this iPhone due to ongoing corrosion, even if the repair is mostly successful.

An AppleCare+ service here would likely be an exchange for a refurb, assuming Apple accepts the AppleCare+ coverage for this.

Dunked iPhones just don’t tend to last.

If you don’t have AppleCare+ coverage or if Apple denies the coverage here, I’d expect to need to acquire a replacement.

Thank you, unfortunately, im on vacation and they do not have an apple store nearby. Since it's an emergency I went to a repair shop and they told me that they could fix it. Change the motherboard and display I'm a bit sketched out. As you said, it's more corrosive but idk if it also causes the display to breakdown aswell. Unless the overheating caused it to break?
