ipod 3rd gen locked from daughter hitting passcode too many times and itunes wont restore in in dfu mode or restore mode

ipod 3rd gen is locked out because my daughter tried the passcode too many times, its not linked to my apple id anymore for some reason, possibly because i changed it at some point. i just want this thing unlocked so i can put all my music on it and not have to worry about my phone all the time when im in the vehicle. Ive tried itunes, all it does in recovery mode is say that it was in dfu mode and needs restarted in dfu mode again, i try that it doesnt work
