Can't update from MacOS Catalina to Big Sur

why can't i update from catalina to bigsur? the answers given don't explain the WHY? just "you can't"

I have a mid 2012 with catalina 10.15 OS

Probably because it lacks some hardware required for Big Sur. Maybe the CPU is not fast enough. It doesn't;t have an appropriate graphics card. any number of other hardware related reasons.


Apple does publish a list of reasons why Macs may not be compatible.


Mid 2012 Macs are not compatible with Big Sur.
