MacBook Pro 2007 HD to be erased

Unfortunately the instructions provided are not sufficient for securely erasing the drive to destroy your personal files when using an unencrypted hard drive. Either first enable Filevault (Security & Privacy System Preferences) and let the encryption process finish, or you will need to select the "Options" button to securely erase the whole drive by writing a single pass of zeroes to the drive. Apple assumes everyone is using an SSD these days or has Filevault enabled, so Apple's instructions are incomplete for securely erasing older Macs.

You can also try using a third party bootable ShredOS USB stick to write zeroes to the entire hard drive which will overwrite all of your personal data.

Use the downloaded ShredOS .img file and use it as a source for Etcher (Mac 10.10+/Windows/Linux) in order to make a bootable ShredOS USB stick.

"Use Disk Utility to erase your Mac

1. Start up from macOS Recovery: Turn on your Mac, then immediately press and hold these two keys until you see an Apple logo or other image: Command (⌘) and R. 
2. If asked, select a user you know the password for, then enter their administrator password. 
3. From the utilities window, select Disk Utility and click Continue.

6. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar of Disk Utility. Don't see Macintosh HD?
7. Click the Erase button in the toolbar, then enter the requested details:

• Name: Macintosh HD
• Format: APFS or Mac OS Extended (Journaled), as recommended by Disk Utility

1. Click Erase Volume Group. If this button isn't shown, click Erase instead.

4. If asked, enter your Apple ID. Forgot your Apple ID?
5. Optional: If you previously used Disk Utility to add internal volumes other than Macintosh HD, you can erase them individually using the same process.
