Don't know trusted phone number

Is there really no way to recover my Apple account if I do not know the trusted phone number that I used to set it up?

If you find you can’t sign in or receive verification codes, you can request account recovery ( How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple ID password - Apple Support ) to regain access to your account. Account recovery might take a few days or longer, depending on the specific account information you can provide to verify your identity.

The first thing it asks you, and it's a requirement, is for the trusted phone number. I don't see a way to continue with account recovery without entering that phone number.

I guess that's it then? If you don't know the trusted phone number then you lose access to your account forever?
