I have a faint red circle near the top of my iPhone screen. What is it?

There are two commonly seen possibilities.

If you see a small (2-3mm) clearly defined red or orange circle somewhere near the signal strength bars, that is the indicator to tell you the microphone e is active. You should be able to demonstrate this by asking Siri a question to see the marker appear.

If you are seeing a rather fuzzy (probably larger) circle your iPhone has probably overlaid a half-transparent screen layout on top of an app which is active in a layer below, and there is probably a red circle on the hidden app. Depending on your phone and OS version you may be able to demonstrate this by going from your Home Screen to the Search screen, and you might see some of the Home Screen icons blurred behind the search screen.
