How to fix a blank display on Apple Watch after swimming

I went for a swim for 45 mins in a pool which was hardly 6ft deep… after i came out from and checked the watch had stopped responding.. i could feel the haptic touch responding but the screen was black

i checked my phone and my watch was connected and was “ON” but the display is blank

this has happened to me in the past too …. I went to apple store for repair but they said the watch is non repairable. Thereafter my watch automatically came on and was working fine .

this is the 2nd time it’s happening.. day 1 after the swim my display never came on and on day 2 (whole night on charge) the display came on but flickered and went off .

my watch is not under warranty but this is a hardware problem and apple is not ready to help but are asking me to buy a new one .

has any one faced a similar problem and is this a build issue and should apple replace my watch?

So I took the watch to an authorised Apple repair centre, They opened the watch and showed the damaged, and its just due to water getting inside, The small circuits and mother board all have corrosion on it and im suggested to either buy a new one or put in a motherboard of another damaged watch which is costing me around INR 7K or around USD 85.

But again no guarantee and strictly no no no water... They told me that all apple watches coming for repair are due to water problems only

I was also advise that even if I buy a new one I should avoid water contact for long life of the device

I just don't understand why market a feature which the watch is not capable of performing.. because of their Ads and Swimming feature I took the watch in water (under advisable limits)

If the watch is water resistant and not water proof then that information should be loud and clear and the Customer should be made aware about it . They should also educate the customer on the life of the "water resistant" adhesive .

In all its a big scam that apple is conducting, its absolutely misleading its customers

Just happened to me yesterday, it wasn't even a swim, a few seconds after entering the pool and it blacked out (and I made sure the water lock was on before anywhere near the water). Went to the Apple store and was shown the T&C saying they don't cover "water spill" or "submersion".

If I want to send in for a check and repair under warranty, and they conclude that the device was indeed spoilt due to a water leakage issue, they will return it unfixed and I have to pay a diagnostic fee that is half the price of the watch [Clause 1.8 from Legal - Repair Terms and Conditions - Apple.] My watch is less than 3 months old, so deteriorating water seal should not be the reason. Still waiting for a response from the services center, but I am pretty shocked by the blatant false advertising and poor quality control.

Mine is also an SE I went swimming at the lake as I have done in the past, and I always use the water eject button afterward. This time, however, it started randomly activating SOS multiple times, and the screen then turned black. Siri still works, and my watch is connected to my phone and charging. I am hoping it will come back on after a few days if not I will have to go to a repair store.

Even apple says that the watch is safe to be used in a swimming pool/ocean: About Apple Watch water resistance - Apple Support

Apple Watch Series 2 and later can be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool or ocean, but you shouldn't use models other than Apple Watch Ultra for diving, water skiing, or other activities involving submersion below shallow depth or high-velocity water.

Hey michellewong

My watch screen did come back and started working normally until 2 days back when I was in Vietnam where it rained lightly and I was out on the street and thereafter the watch screen has gone dark again...if I click on the buttons I get some random white flashes only on the screen, I have put it on charge and hoping that is will start working again like normal,

but I Don't know why apple is not looking into this, this is a pure manufacturing defect, I think their water seal is a defect and the minutes the watch gets exposed to any moisture or water its stops working

My watch can now only work if it doesn't come in contact with water

Ok well mine went blank after a swim on holiday in water around 4 feet deep it’s an SE so should have been ok, I rinsed the pool water off and let it dry out, after a few days I could hear Siri but screen was blank but after about four days the display came on but the resolution was way out and watch faces looked off centre. I did the factory reset and it’s been good since. Maybe there is hope for yours as well.

Well another one here, I swim five times per week, and usually my training lasts 90 minutes.

My watch have been working great for almost two years, it is a S7 and I was supper happy with it, until yesterday, I am on vacations with my family and we are in the beach and pools all day. The watch run out of battery while swimming and it never came back, I left it on the charger the whole night but nothing.

This is really disappointing because it is promoted to be use for swimming, I have even recommended to friends that do the same training I do…

I will wait for a few days and maybe put it in a bowl of rice to see if it comes back. I may give a try to the Ultra 2 because I really like the way this watch records my sessions but definitely be way more careful with it.

This happened to me too and my watch is about 2 years old (which I think is still relatively new and shouldn't expect it to stop working?). My screen just went black and wouldn't turn on and now it's in a loop where it's low battery/thermometer icon keeps flashing but nothing really happening.

I went to the apple store and they told me it would be £250 to get it sent to the depot to be taken a look at as it's out of warranty and suggest that I just buy a new one.

I'm hoping that mine just comes back after a while if i leave it on charge. Did your watch come back and work properly? If so I won't take it swimming again! I'm considering buying a Garmin just because it seems to be a lot hardier but apple watches are more stylish for sure.

It happened to me 3 days ago, I started a swimming workout in the pool and 5 mins after I’ve finished the workout and left the pool I realised the watch was overheating and the screen turned black… I’ve been trying to turn it on but still had no luck…

It’s crazy that Apple is selling a smartwatch with built in swimming workouts and water mode but the hardware isn’t really able to do such things…
