The always on display is stating a wrong time as it’s not updating on it’s own anymore. The clock is also getting slower and slower. At first it was just a few minutes now it’s up to 15min which is not great if you need to be on time - anywhere

Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically = “on”.
That worked for me as well. Thanks for researching this and posting the fix.
To save time for others, here is a quick summary:
Toggle the always on display off, then hard restart the phone. This will fix the issue.
to hard restart quick press volume up then quick press volume down and then press and hold power button till you see apple logo.
This fix that I've found on this Reddit thread worked for me. Basically, you just need to turn off "always on", do restart, and turn it back on.
Same! Mine acts as if the time/clock stops updating when the Always On screen dims. If I touch the screen, it brightens, refreshes, and updates the time. I used to be able to just glance at the clock during the night and see the correct time. Not any more.
Same issue with me. Always on display time freezes at last time it went to sleep n then refreshes to current time only when waken up…. So it’s kind of iffy n seems to be a bug. Happening since last 3 days.
Thank you for your suggestion. I checked. It is and was on. The always on display still is stuck showing a past time. Now it’s even up to 20min „behind“. Have done a restart. Still not showing the correct time
This problem is still happening I just brought iPhone 14 pro max. I updated the software the time changing worked for a bit and now it has gone back to freezing when screen is locked and dims, the time only changes once I touch the screen.
I’m thinking of sending the phone back I have only had it for 2 weeks and go back to android get a Samsung this is my first iPhone ever I’m pretty disappointed

No, unfortunately no. The time is more accurate now but still unreliable. I have done all updates. I’m using my old phone now for accuracy. It’s not how I wanted it to be…
this EXACT problem started last night for me. When phone is dim the time doesn’t update, I have to touch the screen and it finally updates.

Having trouble with this now. Seems to have started with 17.1.
Same it’s even stuck on random times ahead or blurred lines it’s weird.
My local (main display) time is ok, but the widget for another time zone shows a weird warped and faded digit until I wake up the display. It didn’t improve with the latest update. 🤷🏻♀️
Is Apple just ignoring this bug?!?? We rely on our phone for a lot of things, but it doesn't matter if we can't trust the time displayed!!
