Backup could not be completed

I am trying to back up my phone but it keeps saying it couldn’t be completed. The last back up was a year ago. I have auto back up on so I don’t know why it hasn’t backed up in a year. I am connected to wifi and plugged into outlet. I haven’t received an alert saying I need more storage..I am only using 80gb of 200 available. I’m trying to back up now so I can get a new phone. Any suggestions?

Hello Deadwood615,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. If you're unable to backup to iCloud, we'd like to help out and make some recommendations to help out. Let's start off by reviewing the following resource and steps listed here: If you can't back up to iCloud - Apple Support

1. In iOS or iPadOS, go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Check that you're connected to Wi-Fi.
2. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update. Download and install any available updates for your device.
3. Try to back up on another Wi-Fi network.
4. Check to make sure that you have enough iCloud storage for the backup
5. Restart your iPhone.
6. Check whether you installed a profile that restricts iCloud Backup. Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management to see a list of installed profiles.

We hope these steps are helpful. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Best of luck.
