The external CD/DVD drive won't connect to MacBook Pro

I have recently bought a new M1 MacBook Pro. I connect my older (USB-A) printer and scanner to the `MacBook using a Hyper Drive adapter and everything works well. However today I connected my external CD/DVD drive today using the Hyper Drive and there was no 'connecting' sound. The MacBook Pro does not seem to recognise the external drive. What should I do to ensure the CD/DVD drive is compatible with the MacBook, please?

is your optical drive the Apple USB Superdrive? if yes, the issue is trying to connect it through the hub. a superdrive needs to be connected directly to the Mac. and with Macs that only have TB3 / USB-C ports, you need an USB-C to USB Adapter to connect it directly.

however, if it is a third party drive, let us know. someone else may have an answer for you in that case. my experience with those is nil.
