Receive message "incorrect password" on 5th generation iPad even thought it is correct

I am trying to reset my old iPad so my husband can use it but I cannot select reset or turn off 'find my iPad' because I keep getting the message that my AppleID password is incorrect. It is not. I have reset it probably a dozen times. Please can anyone help? I have spent way too much time on this..... :(

Hi Paige0531,

For help with removing the iPad from your account, test the steps below found in the article here: Remove a device from Find My on iPad

"Turn off Activation Lock on a device you no longer have

If you sold or gave away your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple Watch and you forgot to turn off Find My [device], you can still remove Activation Lock using the Find My app.

  1. Tap Devices at the bottom-left side of the screen, then tap the name of the device you want to remove.
  2. Erase the device.
  3. Because the device isn’t lost, don’t enter a phone number or message.
  4. If the device is offline, the remote erase begins the next time it connects to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. You receive an email when the device is erased.
  5. When the device is erased, tap Remove This Device, then tap Remove.
  6. All your content is erased, Activation Lock is turned off, and someone else can now activate the device."

First off all, Make sure your iPad is connected to Wifi.

If not connected then connect and then try to reset iPad from the device itself.

Use a computer to erase iPhone

You can use a Mac or Windows PC to erase all data and settings from your iPhone, restore iPhone to factory settings, and install the latest version of iOS.

  1. Connect your iPhone to your computer with a USB or USB-C cable. You may also need an adapter. See Connect iPhone and your computer with a cable.
  2. Turn on your iPhone.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • On a Mac (macOS 10.15 or later): Click the Finder icon in the Dock to open a Finder window, click the iPhone button in the Finder sidebar (below Locations), click General at the top of the window, then click Restore iPhone.
    • On a Mac (macOS 10.14 or earlier) or a Windows PC: Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (see the Apple Support article Update to the latest version of iTunes). Open iTunes, click the iPhone button near the top left of the iTunes window, click Summary, then click Restore iPhone.

If you are not sure what apple ID you have used on iPad then it would be a different story.

Check What Apple ID You have used on your iPad.

Settings> Name> Check The email showing under your name.

Older OS:

Settings> iCloud > Check The email showing there.

If you use different apple ID then you may need to reset password for that Apple Id. If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support (CA)

If you can not reset the password then you may need to go through Activation Lock Removal Process.
