disappearing tabs in safari

When I open a new tab from a link, the tab opens and then disappears.

I there a way to fix this?

This happens on all my macs.

iMac 27″, macOS 11.7

Hi there random47,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

If Safari is not behaving as expected when opening new tabs from links, we can recommend troubleshooting the Safari app directly using the steps found in the Apple Support article If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac - Apple Support. These steps target a variety of issues Safari may experience while opening websites and pages.

Since the issue occurs across multiple Mac computers, we would also suggest checking to see if you have iCloud Tabs enabled. This feature will sync tabs and tab groups across devices you use the same Apple ID with, so it may be syncing whatever is happening with the tabs. You can learn more about how this works here: Set up and use iCloud Tabs - Apple Support.

If you have not already, we also suggest seeing if the issue persists while in safe mode. Safe mode does a couple of things for us:

  1. During boot, it runs a scan of your startup disk, fixing issues it comes across where possible.
  2. Once booted, it disables certain processes and software that might be causing a conflict.

You can learn more about why safe mode can be helpful, how to boot to it, and what to do with your findings, here: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support.

Have a great day.
