Go to System Settings, Siri & Spotlight. Make sure to check all categories you want to search. Also make sure Spotlight Privacy has no 'Locations' specified in it.

I checked and I have every boxed ticked. Still no luck.
However, after various attempts I found out that search works on my mac HD and only there.
All my data was copied over using Migration assistant.
Thoughts?
Hi, just to provide an update. The above steps did not resolve the issue. Reached out to Apple support, tried various things including reinstalling the OS, no luck.
Finally, the third Apple rep, Michelle, suggested I try COMMAND ⌘ Spacebar - Bingo! That search works. The issue is with the Finder App. She will relay back to engineering as other may be having this problem.
If you have this problem, use ⌘ Spacebar until a fix is issued.
