I have up-to-date Podcast app. I am streaming an episode on my home WFI. Episode’s won’t resume. The progress circle has been spinning for 20 minutes. How do I get the episode to resume. I shut down the app and relaunched it. I powered down my iPhone and restarted it. No luck.
I think I got past this. I “marked as unplayed” and I was able to listen to the podcast.
Instructions:
Next to the podcast title is three dots
“ . . . “
Click on them.
The drop-down has a “Mark as Unplayed” option.
I was then able to get a response when I hit the “Play” button and used the slide bar to resume approximately where I left off.

Yes it’s extremely annoying. The only fix I found so far is if I delete the app and redownload it. Haven’t found a permanent way to fix it yet
Thanks -marking as unplayed worked for me. We shouldn’t have to do it though! I use another app sometimes but I’d rather have this one work. I hope someone listens.
Same issue for months.
I recently tried deleting all the downloaded episodes (General>Storage>Podcasts) and it started working for me.
Hopefully it lasts.
Yes , I did this and it worked for me. I would try this. Hit marked as played, and then hit mark as unplayed. It should work.
It’s horribly annoying and probably happens 40% of the times I try resuming a podcast. I now just automatically delete the app and re-download when this occurs. I hemorrhage money to Apple every month and they should fix this!
Agree on how annoying it is and deleting/re-downloading is the only thing that has worked for me. If I have to download a podcast app anyway, I think I'll try one that doesn't have the history of annoyance like this one now does. It's not like there aren't many to choose from.
I am wondering the same. My podcasts will not resume or replay. I have checked all my settings and cannot find anything that would cause or fix this problem. Apple, help us out here….
Yes this happens all the time. It seems particularly the case when I pause when I am out and about and using 4G/5G and then return home and switch to my wifi. Why does it keep doing this Apple?
That didn't seem to work for me.
Having to delete and re-download the app is ridiculous. I am going to use another podcast app that works. You'd think Apple would know about this by now and send a fix.

Because the app probably doesn't make Apple any money so they don't care. Also probably because most people use Spotify or similar instead. I wouldn't be surprised if the Apple Podcast app disappeared in the next major release. 😞

SO annoying! I was cussing out my car today, thinking it was the problem.
