Transfer data from iPhone to iPad

I have an iPhone and an iPad. I purchased a new iPad and want to transfer the data from my phone to the iPad.

I used QuickStart but I did not get an option to transfer data directly from the phone - only thru the cloud. So when I transferred the data it used the cloud backup of the iPad and not my phone.

Since the apps and some other data are different on my phone than my old iPad I want the phone apps and data on my new iPad.

how can I do that? I erased the new iPad and tried again with the old iPad turned off to make sure it wasn’t interfering with the transfer but the same thing happened.

Do I need to change the Apple ID on the old iPad or something like that? It should be simple and just transfer directly but it doesn’t.

thanks

iPad

If you are experiencing difficulties, try restoring the new iPad from the iPhone’s iCloud or iTunes backup:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

You need to recognise that while restoring the iPhone backup to the iPad, due to differences between iPad and iPhone, not all of the device settings will be restored to the iPad. All data will be restored to the iPad - along with a record of installed Apps.

When restoring from a backup, Apps installed on the iPhone that are both available and compatible with the iPad, will also be automatically downloaded and installed from the Apple App Store.

Transferring form iPhone-to-iPad:

The iPhone and the iPad work on two completely different platforms. You're not going to get all of the same info on both devices (including apps). If you enable items in iCloud Settings (i.e. Contacts) on both devices and associate these to the same Apple ID, then all will show up and be accessible through iCloud.

You are welcome.

Zoom In for Larger Icons:

Go into Accessibility, and you might be able to change the icons to that they are so big that you can get the same ones to be placed where they are.

The iPad and iPhone screens differ significantly in their dimensions and layout. As a consequence, screen layout (including App Folders) are not transferred between iPhone and iPad.

While the App Folders can be recreated, you’ll not be able to mirror the screen layout. Also consider that in addition to the icon grid-layout that differs between devices, the iPad also supports placement of Widgets on any of the Home Screens.

Thanks again - on another note I plan on giving my old iPad to my 3 yr old grandson to keep him occupied in his car seat so I guess unless I change the Apple ID on it any changes made on the old iPad (photos, apps. Etc) will reflect on my new iPad and iPhone. Is that correct?

so if I change the Apple ID on the old one can I then make changes to it without affecting my phone and iPad?

If handing the iPad to anyone else, especially a toddler, your data is at risk. You would be best advised to have an iPad explicitly for use by a minor - with its own AppleID.

Every child should have their own AppleID - in fact, every user should have their own AppleID. This is essential to maintain intended separation of activities and to avoid unintended sharing of sensitive and data. Done properly, you’ll not have any issues with content related to your child appearing on your own devices.

You may find this information to be helpful with setting-up an AppleID for a minor - and considering appropriate controls:
