Combining 2 Photo Booth libraries

I think I inadvertently deleted photos from Photo Booth when recently cleaning my computer. Or, it might have occurred when I updated my Mac.

I have recovered them from Time Machine but now have 2 Photo Booth folders in Pictures, one is called Photo Booth Library the other Photo Booth Library Original.

The Photo Booth App does not accurately reflect the contents of either of these libraries. The App appears to contain a random selection of photos with hundreds missing. I have tried to combine the two libraries but it makes no difference to the contents of the actual app.

Is there a way of combining the folders so that all the photos appear in the App?

I am not sure if there is a way to merge the two libraries.

You can, however, recover the actual image files, since they are stored inside the library bundles.

To access the contents, control-click on the Photo Booth Library bundle, choose Show Package Contents

then you can COPY (do not move) the files to another location. The bundle include the original file as well as the modified files:

FWIW, using Photo Booth to manage a library of images is not so great. It does not allow for any of the features that are present in Photos - to have albums, smart albums, face recognition, etc.

I would suggest you import these images to the Photo application, and only use Photo Booth to er... take photos.

Thank you for your reply.

I have copied all the photos into one file as per your advice. However, the photos that appear in Photo Booth are not representative of any of these files. Is there a way of seeing which file is actively being used in Photo Booth?

I appreciate that Photo Booth is not designed to manage albums. I would simply like all my Photo Booth photos to be available in Photo Booth. I have copied the jpegs into Photo.

I have tried but it does not seem like there is any way to combine libraries for Photo Booth.

My suggestion is to use Photo Booth only to take photos, and organize them in Photos.

You could create an Album in Photos to group all your Photo Booth photos. That is, IMO, even better than keeping them in Photo Booth. There are zero organizational features in Photo Booth, and so much you can do in Photos. The only distinguishing feature that I see in Photo Booth are those "filters" - but do you really use them for anything other than an occasional practical joke?

Hi

I do not really use Photo Booth any more. It was fun when I phones were in their infancy and selfies weren't really a thing.

More than anything I am now intrigued as to which photo file my Photo Booth is referencing. I have two Photobooth folders in finder, neither of which are reflected in what is shown in PhotoBooth,
