I received this message and don't know what it means and why it happened.
The name of your computer “MacBook Air (2)” is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to “MacBook Air (3)”. We have 2 MacBook Air on our home network all the time.

You can change the name of each computer to something unique (e.g., Samantha's MacBook Air & Fred's MacBook Air) at Apple menu > System Settings > General > About > Name.
On systems before Ventura macOS 13, the same option is at Apple menu > System Preferences > Sharing.
