You can retrieve a deleted message......IF.......

You have iOS 16 installed on the phone
The message was deleted.....after......you installed iOS 16
It has not been more than 30 days since the message was deleted

Recover deleted text messages on your iPhone or iPadApple Official Apple Support › en-us

Messages that do not meet all 3 of the conditions above are gone.
