iPad Pro 9.7 iOS 16 won’t update

My iPad Pro 9.7 keeps saying update requested but never gets beyond this point. The model number is MLMV2LL/A . I need the update to run an app that will only work above iOS 16 Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards,

Ken

All models of iPad Pro are capable of update to the current version of iPadOS - at time of writing, this being iPadOS 16.3.1.

For any model of iPad capable of update to a more recent version of iOS/iPadOS than is currently installed, these support pages outline both the available methods by which the update can be performed - and troubleshooting should you experience difficulties:

Update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

iOS update and restore errors – Apple Support

Be aware that while an iPad may be capable of update, in some circumstances you may need to use a computer to perform the update. To do so, you will need access to either a Windows PC (with iTunes for Windows installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS). Ensure that your installed version of iTunes has been updated to the most recent version; the essential device drivers are included.

Update software on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in iTunes on PC - Apple Support

If you have a beta profile installed, ensure this has been removed from your iPad - as, otherwise, installation of production software updates may be inhibited. This support page provides the necessary information to remove the beta from your iPad:

You should note that for your iPad to install an available update, its battery must be charged to at least 50% capacity - and/or be connected to its Power Adapter. Similarly, the iPad can only be updated over a standard WiFi connection - or be updated by a PC or Mac using iTunes or Finder - over a USB connection.

Your iPad Pro 9.7 should be able to update to iPadOS 16.3.1. Make sure that your iPad is setup to meet the following requirements before you attempt to update the iOS version over a Wi-Fi Network.

  1. Your iPad must have a fast Wi-Fi connection; you cannot update over cellular data or a cellular hotspot
  2. The iPad can not be in Low Power mode
  3. The battery state of charge must be above 50%
  4. Your iPad must have at least 6GB or more free storage space
  5. Your iPad cannot be connected through VPN
  6. You should leave the iPad plugged in until it finishes updating, both to assure that it remains above 50% and to keep Wi-Fi enabled
