Why is the macbook internal microphone always chosen when it is disconnected because the lid is closed?
two of the most infuriating features of the otherwise excellent macbook are
1) if you want to disable the internal monitor, so you can use external monitors properly, you have to close the lid, which means you cant use the fingerprint reader or microphone, two things which are exelect, but crippled by having to close the lid
2) when the lid is closed, and it very very stupidly disconnects the microphone, the microphone is then forced to be used and selected by every app, even though it doesn't work. I have a headset permanently connected, but when the lid is closed, and the internal mic is force disconnected by apple (which is a terrible thing), it is alway set as the microphone, overriding the apple system settings for all software. Every single day I have to fight to get the mac to use the microphone in the headset, as every day it defaults back to the brokenly disabled internal mic. When you change the audio settings in the "sound" system preferences to the headset, it only ever changes the output, and doesnt change the input, even though the mac internal mic is physically disconnected it still forces you to use it every day by default. As you can guess, this is very very frustrating and pointless.
