Malware & CleanMyMac X

Hi,

I was using CleanMyMac X till today, as i read here that is safer to uninstall it. But the problem that I have that it showed in Malware detection that I have Tsunami Kaiten Trojan and pointed to logind deamon but it couldnt be deleted with one click. My actions with deleting it stopped after reading that it's better to delete CMM. Then I installed Malwarebytes and scanned my mac. I perfomed few scans and it isnt showing any threats or viruses.

  1. What are the best ways to control if you had been affected with any of malware
  2. That tsunami kaiten was false alarm made by CMM or are there ways to se if I have it on my computer
  3. Why In my Finder search, searching for "com.apple.logind.plist" doesnt show anything, but when i click step by step from my disk > System > Library etc. I see it there. (problem isnt only with that file but any file there)

Mac mini, macOS 13.2

You did the right thing by removing CleanMyMac and believe the trojan found by them was a false alarm. I'm sure it is just an attempt to prove its relevance or upsell you to something that will remove it.

I would trust Malwarebytes, another highly recommended by these boards and free app to check your system is EtreCheck.

As for searching "com.apple.logind.plist", if you have "This Mac" selected in the search criteria, then click the "+" to the right. Where it says Kind, change it to "System Files" and then "Are Included". You will see the file.

Several more side notes:

1) You can use CleanMyMac's built-in uninstall utility to uninstall itself. Then it will remove all remnants of itself.

2) The only Apple support recommended Malware removal tool is MalwareBytes

3) If you want to search for hidden or otherwise obscure files and/or folders use FindAnyFile

(It is free but also has a paid version if you like it)

Thanks, so in theory, if the MalwareBytes says that everything is ok, than its ok? :) In my activity monitor spent like 3/4 hours, and nothing strange isnt showing up, and i didnt seen any slow down in first place, even when that trojan was supposedly on my mac.

Third party apps that claim to protect, clean, boost performance, etc. make false reports in order to get you to buy their apps.
