Why does the watch screen stay dark when I prefer it stays lit?

Raising your wrist will light the screen for 5 seconds

Tapping the screen will light it for either 15 or 70 seconds (settings, Display & Brightness, Wake duration)

Some watche models have 'always on display' but it is still dim to preserve battery

Why does the Apple Watch series 9 dims in dark lighting At night when the ambient light is dark the watch goes dimmer and can hardly see it. You go somewhere with better lighting and it gets brighter. It should get brighter in less ambient areas
