What model phone do you have? Only an IPhone 12 or later model is capable of using 5G cell service.

No. What's built into the iPhone is what's built into it. However, if you have a 5G phone and are in a rural area where 5G is not an option, then you can only make optimum use of what is currently broadcasted. As more people move in to rural areas, Cellular providers with expand this option in the to come.
