What happens if I open a SMS that a stranger sent me

A stranger sent me an SMS which is probably a scammer. My main question is I opened the SMS chat and red it can I get any malware or get hacket by it any chance?

No. You are fine. You can open messages or emails that you like. You are fine as long as you did not click on a link to either download something or entered your username and password credentials.
