Keynote remote

I have an iPad and iPhone, and have successfully paired them to use my iPhone as a remote control for a Keynote presentation on the iPad. Good.

However, is there a way to use a run-of-the-mill $20 remote as a remote? Use that instead of the iPhone.

In short, if I preferred to use a generic remote to control a Keynote presentation on iPad, is that possible?

Thanks.

iPad and iPhone can connect to Bluetooth or wi-fi remote controls

BlueTooth remotes do not use a USB dongle

When using a wi-fi remote for that specific iPad, you will need the Apple USB-C to USB adapter to connect the USB receiver to the iPad.
