Apple Watch error- looks like you are already listening on another device

Hi my Apple Watch 7 keeps saying ‘looks like you are already listening on another device’ and connect to Wi-Fi, every time I separate it from my iPhone 13 to go on a walk or gym.

tried looking up online for ideas. Only my iPhone uses Apple Music. I have downloaded all the required music to my iPhone then added it to watch in the Watch app. Tried removing the Watch as another post suggested and adding again but has not solved it.

Watch shows a small red phone icon with a line through it which I assume means it is not in contact with a phone obviously. Strangely when I join up the phone and watch with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned off this goes away? I thought being able to play music without you phone was one of the key benefits so why is it so hard?

I can see online a lot of other people have had the same issue which is depressing after spending so much on this.

Any ideas?

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.

Hey DanL17,

You've completed some great steps so far by unpairing and then re-pairing the Apple Watch and iPhone, making sure that the playlist you want to listen to is synced to your Apple Watch, ensuring that both devices are updated, and even restarting both devices. If the same happens when syncing any playlist to your Apple Watch and not just a specific one, it might be best to Contact Apple Support directly for more help on this one.

Take care.
