Once the ipad used up its charge I let it rest. Then I charged it up. The battery had a slight charge when I started up. I’m hoping it would reboot itself. Hurry. It worked. Unfortunately, you have to wait until the battery used up its charge, which, in my case took two days. I glad it works perfectly now.

thank you.

You are not holding down the buttons long enough for the Forced Restart to occur. You are pressing them briefly causing a screenshot to be taken (this is the default behavior). You need to press down both buttons down at the same time...and once pressed, continue to hold both of them down (do not let either button up) until you see the Apple logo. Once you see the Apple logo, release both buttons.

Give that a try.

If your iPad is unresponsive, connect your iPad to its Power Adapter and allow the iPad to charge. Then, while still connected to external power, try a forced-restart:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.

my iPad

the iPad has some charged. The screen shows lock symbol at the top of the screen. I thought it was frozen. After seeing the lock symbol I realized it is locked. How do you unlock a locked devise?

This is the first time this happen. I was installing an app. I used Face ID. It was unresponsive except that I could hold down the start button to close. That came on but it was unresponsive to shut down.

I tried your way except I didn’t charge it. Unresponsive. I tried start and home button together. It responded taking a screen shot. Still unable to do anything else or to shutdown.

thank you.
