1. Hey guys.
Recently, I’ve been noticing that my MBP was getting slower over time but I thought it was just getting old.
But one day, suddenly, it got REALLY slow, becoming unusable.
What did I do?
Reset PRAM: didn’t work.
2. SMC: didn’t work.
3. Safe mode, erased SSD with Disk Utility, reinstalled the OS X Mountain Lion (took ages): still laggy.
4. Bought a new battery: didn’t work.
5. Bought a new SSD, reinstalled OS X (took ages again): nope, didn’t work too.
6. Time machined to the new SSD: don’t even start up.
7. Put a new thermal paste on the CPU: didn’t work.
8. Saw something about removing the camera connector (a bit exoteric lol): didn’t work. Also saw something about replacing the whole screen. Haven’t tried because I don’t have a spare one.
Feels like I’m running out of options. GPU is integrated with CPU which is solded as well as RAM.
Should I give up and buy a new MBP?(don’t have the money but I need it to work, so it’s a last resort)
Or do someone have a magic trick to resurrect my dear old friend?
unplug all third party peripherals
Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus
all known to cause issues on the macOS
and compare your results.
To trouble shoot further you can:
—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support
This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.
—A SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies
Takes a bit longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, font cache, etc., third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.
Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.
a reboot will put it back to normal mode.
This test will tell you if third party interference; most* extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.
