[Bug] iPad Safari YouTube fullscreen video only takes up a quarter of the screen

When using safari to play a YouTube video in webpage and go full screen, I sometimes get this glitch where the video only takes up a quarter of the screen. The quickest resolution is to turn my iPad right side up and then back in the position I was using it. Sometimes the problem will randomly resolve itself but I hope to completely get rid of it. Besides, I notice that the problem only happens when the YouTube webpage zooming is greater than 100%.

Please help.

Hey there huangky,

If this is only happening with using the YouTube app, then try the steps provided by their support pages here:

Watch in full screen mode - iPhone & iPad - YouTube Help

You can also try a few steps on your iPad when apps aren't working as expected:

1. Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

2. Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

3. Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

4. Delete the app, then redownload it
Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

Hello huangky,

For difficulties with Safari you'll want to take the steps below:

Connect to a different network
Try to load a website, like www.apple.com, using cellular data. If you don't have cellular data, connect to a different Wi-Fi network and then load the website.
If you're using a VPN (Virtual Private Network), check your VPN settings. If you have a VPN turned on, some apps or websites might block content from loading.

Restart your device
Turn off your device and turn it on again.
Restart your iPhone
Restart your iPad
Restart your iPod touch

Clear website data
You can clear website data occasionally to improve Safari performance.
1. Go to Settings > Safari.
2. Tap Clear History and Website Data.
3. Tap Clear History and Data to confirm.

Turn on JavaScript
Turn on JavaScript if it's not already on.
1. Go to Settings > Safari > Advanced.
2. Find the JavaScript feature.
3. Tap the button to turn on JavaScript.

You can also find those steps in this resource: If Safari isn't loading websites or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Should that still persist, do you experience the same behavior with any other websites?

If this is happening exclusively with YouTube, you'll want to reach out to them: YouTube Help They'd be in the best position to assist with troubleshooting their particular website.

Take care.
