Disk Utility, simply not good enough..

I am a professional software developer and I'm really surprised that the very latest OS "macOS Monterey Version 12.6.3" Disk Utility is no better than an older version of the same OS. I have an older MacBook Pro x86 and a MacBook Pro M1 and an iMAC.

I'm trying to repair a USB stick which I've tried on several systems, my iMac is running:

macOS Monterey version 12.6.3, this system:

iMAC (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)

Processor 4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Memory 16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

Graphics AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4 GB

When I launch the Disk Utility, the disk that I want to repair appears, I've tried Erasing, Unmounting and First Aid. None of these processes give any feedback and frankly the application is rubbish, its something I would not have expected Apple to have provided, the dialogs sit around forever with no feedback and no status information.

Apple I expect better!

iMac 27″, macOS 12.6

FWIW, your complaint about DU aside, USB sticks are not robust and tend to fail irreparably at anytime and for no apparent reason. I'd recommend you use an inexpensive SSD rather than a USB stick..

Back to your feelings about DU, Apple doesn't have much presence here in the Community user forums. If you would like to leave product feedback or to submit a request for features consideration in macOS or iOS or have other concerns, you can follow this link – Product Feedback - Apple
