How do I actually use two displays once I click off mirroring?

How do I actually use two displays once I click off mirroring?
"Extended desktop" concatenates the displays along an edge (which you can change to your liking). The mouse moves seamlessly across the imaginary line between displays, and can drag a window all the way onto the other display. Or part way, and the two pieces on each different display will update and scroll "the right way". Looks like this:
