The model you've shown can run as new as Catalina 10.15.7 through

use of 'downloadable installer' from Apple servers site pages. If your

MacBook Pro is Mid 2012, that would be last one it could run. Mine is

set-up to run Mojave 10.14.6; it had ran earlier 10.13.6 to get later OS

parts that are not separately available; such as firmware.

There are several upgrades past Mavericks 10.9.5, so if you've

not gone past that antique, you may need to get a later version..

Try get a download; say El Capitan 10.11.6, then try Mojave 10.14

and finally, if you really want the last macOS a mid 2012 can run

(Correctly identified as such; not Late 2012 or Early 2013 MB/Pro)

~ then get any of those from this downloads page.

A later than Late 2012 MacBook Pro, might run Big Sur, instead.

But a leap from Mavericks direct, would be unlikely to succeed.

..Other varied rules apply, some suggested by other ASC posts..

Successfully Installing an Update:

Try the following....

A. Create a Temporary Admin:

See what happens when you use a new administrator to install this. If it works, then there is an error in your current user.

B. Update in Safe Mode:

If you can't click something, then try it in Safe Mode [Hold Down: the shift key upon boot]. In Safe ModeLogin Items do not open at login; certain preferences are set aside; and damaged system files (i.e. caches) are fixed. Go Here: Start Up your Mac in Safe Mode - Apple Support

C. Use Ethernet:

On the computer, you connect it through Ethernet, going directly into your router. For a Mac (or PC) that does not have Ethernet, this would be the adapter to use: Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter - Apple
