Updating late 2015 iMac from High Sierra

Hi everyone,

I haven’t used my iMac for several years and have just turned it on. It is still on high Sierra. I went to App Store to update and it only came up with small security updates which I completed but it has not given me an option for more recent iOS?

Please see attached photo for my machine specs. I have begun manually downloading iOS Monterey (says 5 hours for completion) but I just want to check this will be okay?

I have nothing of importance on the mac so don’t feel the need to backup.

Also according to apple website Monterey is compatible with my machine?

Any advice please or anyone know why it was not showing as an update option in the App Store?

many thanks

You can get a valid Monterey installer from this Apple support page:

How to download macOS - Apple Support

But first...

1) Fix any software issues before updating. Updating may make the worse.

2) Look in your Applications folder to see if a Monterey installer is already there. Delete it before using the current installer on the web page.

3)  ⚠️ If you update past macOS 10.14 "Mojave," all your older 32-bit apps will STOP WORKING! That means old versions of Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud and versions of Office older than 2016 (If already updated) with go dark for good along with others.

You can use this free tool to see what apps you may lose and which ones can be updated instead of repurchased:

If you cannot afford to buy new software versions, stop at Mojave.
